DR IKECHI AGBUGBA PhD

Dr Ikechi Agbugba specialized in Agricultural Economics with PhD degree in Agribusiness and Agricultural Marketing from the University of Nigeria and Fort Hare University. Since 2003, he has been carrying-out researches on marketing of food and agricultural commodities in selected sub-Saharan Africa communities. He has experience in university teaching, mentoring and researching such as supervising students’ dissertations and theses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 

His academic roles have either featured as Postdoctoral Fellow/Lecturer at University of Fort Hare; Lecturer/Researcher at Rivers State University; Faculty Member in Master in Agribusiness and MBA programmes at the Rome Business School (Nigeria Campus) and External Examiner (PhD) for Development Studies Dept. of a South African Institution. He has supervised about 40 students. 

Dr Ikechi is the recipient of the excellence award ‘Agro-Economist of the year’ in the 2017 Pan African Agricultural Journalists (PAAJ) Conference. 

Regarding articles and publication, he has over 40 articles, majorly of which are published in international academic proceedings and referred journals. More so, he has featured and still features as an invited reviewer of papers journal and publishing enterprises. He is a reviewer of the Journal of the Advancement of Developing Economies (JADE), Current Journal of Agriculture, Science & Technology (CJAST), to mention a few. More so, he served as Deputy Vice President, Agrilink International Inc. with headquarters in the USA (Publishers of the Nigerian Agriculture Magazine). 

Aside his roles in the academia and research domains, he serves as youth mentor and also consults as the appointed Advisor, Agriculture Sector Development of Canada African Network-All Trade Action Group (CAN-ATAG); Senior Advisor & Member of Administrative Board, Association of African Future Leaders (AAFL); African Youth Diaspora Organisation (AYDO); Director, Agriculture Affairs to Africa for the National Women in Agriculture Association (NWIAA) with headquarters in Oklahoma City, USA; and Member, Leadership Team & Instructor at the Osiri University (OU). 

Presently, he is also a regular speaker or guest speaker in professional and international conferences, seminars, webinars and meetings. He has also moderated sessions, as well as spoken in conferences held in Nigeria, Malaysia, India, South Africa, USA and Mauritius. Moreover, he is a selected academic/researcher and stakeholder member in the Feed-the-Future initiative of the USAID Global Food Security Strategy Whole-System Workshop.

DIRECTOR, RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT/INTERNATIONAL COORDINATOR

His professional and career vision is geared towards contributing to the on-going transformation and developmental initiatives in rural communities and agro systems, enhancing decision-making processes and improvement of teaching and management support tools, as well as identifying and strengthening entrepreneurial capacities and potentials of communities through extension programmes in line with food and agribusiness activities, which will, to a reasonable extent halve poverty thereby ensuring food security.
